I Go Chop

  • Culture

“The world’s FIRST concept based Nigerian takeaway”.

Atmosphere: 4/5
Cultured. Classy. Clean. This Hackney takeaway is small and sleek. What immediately stands out about this takeaway is attention to detail – a conscious effort was clearly made to integrate Nigerian culture into every element of the place. Artwork, quotes and greenery work in harmony to transform this corner of London into a mini slice of Nigeria.

Service: 5/5
I can’t fault the service here. The menu was easy to understand, complete with clear descriptions of each meal to ensure those unfamiliar with Nigerian dishes had a good sense of what they were ordering. Moreover, the waiters were friendly, and the food arrived in no time after being freshly prepared in front of us (without comprising on taste!)

Food: 5/5
Without a doubt, I would recommend the Oga Burrito, a combination of jollof rice, beans, fried plantain and gizzard turkey meat – believe it or not, the plantain really goes well in a tortilla wrap! We barely uttered a word throughout the meal, a true testament to the chef’s ability to dish up authentic African flavours within a matter of minutes.

Price: 5/5
With a full meal costing £6 or less, I Go Chop is definitely student friendly! I ordered a lot of food for myself (way more than I could finish) and I still spent under £15.
Final thoughts
Overall, this place is a gem, bringing both brightness and life to Hackney. I hope that this business continues to expand, and more branches open around London. It really is a “little Lagos”.
