17:00 – The stall selling cakes for the Justice for Cleaners strike fund has raised £123

16:29 – Co-President Leah Edwards has launched a petition calling for the School to put docked strike pay into the student hardship fund

16:27 – Apparently SOAS canteen took just £70 today

14:33 – UCU Branch President Nadje al-Ali thanks students for their support and says its what makes teaching at SOAS so worthwhile

14:18 – Looking through the window a lecture is taking place in G50, there seems to be about 10 students present. According to the timetable that’s a lecture on post-war Japanese society.

13:15 – Going by how few bikes there are in the racks outside there can’t be many staff and students here. Only a small trickle have gone into the building through out the day.

12:54 – Georgie Robertson, Campaigns Officer, tells me the Union will be raising the issue of docked wages being paid into the hardship wound with the School

12:41 – We’re expecting most of the students currently on the picket line to join a demonstration shortly, but before then let’s update you in the day so far.

– lecturers and support staff at SOAS, and universities across the country, are taking strike action over pay

– Around 50 staff and students are gathered outside the main building and there are picket lines at Vernon Square, the Faber Building and the Language Centre

– Lecturers have given teach-outs on the Steps on topics such as austerity, queer feminism and global protest movements

– UCU Branch President Nadje Al-Ali has reveiled that SOAS isn’t puting strikers’ docked wages into the student hardship fund, as was previously thought
