SOAS SPIRIT EDITOR ELECTION

Nominations to become the new editor in chief of SOAS Spirit Newspaper close sunday the 9th of March 11:59.

 

 

 

The SOAS Spirit is the only student run newspaper on campus and as editor in chief you will have the unique opportunity to represent the voice and views of students to the wider SOAS community.  If you are interested in media and think you have what it takes to run the paper for the coming year then this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you cannot miss.

It has been a fantastic year for the Spirit and the paper has gone from strength to strength. However, the chief Editor Mohammad Tahboub is stepping down in line with the papers constitution which only allows an editor a maximum of 2 years in charge.

It is now time to have its annual election which is OPEN TO ALL SOAS STUDENTS

 

 

The Role:

 

The position is for the 2014-2015 academic period and therefore will start in May.

 

As editor you will be required to perform a whole array of managerial duties, such as recruiting writers and organising and maintaining the structure of the paper according to its constitution. You will also be responsible for making sure that the paper runs effectively and is printed and distributed on time and sufficiently. Furthermore Editors need to have the ability to spot a good story and have exceptional communication and teamwork skills so as to convey their message.

 

Above all, the need to uphold the integrity of the SOAS spirit is needed in ensuring the standard of journalism maintains a commitment to ethical and responsible reporting.

Please note this is not a paid position and requires a lot of dedication and commitment.

Who can run in the election?

 

Any student can run in the election provided that she/he will be in SOAS next year.

 

Nominations dates and deadlines.

 

Nominations open Wednesday the 28th Febraury.

 

Nominations close Sunday  the 9th of March.

 

The vote.

Online voting will take place on the 17th to 19th of March.

Who votes?.

 

 

As outlined in the SOAS Spirits constitution (voted on by last year’s UGM) only members of the SOAS Spirit team and those who have contributed to the spirit twice as well as the Students’ Union executive committee can vote.

 

Results.

Results will be announced on 7pm Wednesday 19th of March

 

Submitting your nomination.

 

All candidates are required to submit a manifesto outlining their experience and what they wish to bring to the role. Manifestos must be no longer than a single side of A4 paper and must include a photo. Candidates are also required to submit a 400 word news piece on a subject of their choice.

Once I have received your nomination I will send you the election rules document as outlined in the SOAS Spirits constitution.
